Railroad Mills Special Environmental Area

on the Auburn Trail

The Town of Victor has received a grant to replace a bridge along the old Auburn-Rochester Railroad bed and to "improve the existing trail" connecting it with sections already completed within the town.

This new "connecting" portion runs from Main Street, Fishers, NY to Woolston Road near Powder Mill Park in Perinton.  A 3500' section that runs from Fishers Road to Railroad Mills Road contains a unique diversity of habitat which supports a plethora of plant and wildlife.

A variety of plants, some unusual and rare, grow along the trail.  Butterflies reproduce.  Birds nest or stop to feed during migration.  Turtles nest.

Several organizations concerned with the environment came together and formed a Coalition to inform the public of this treasure and the danger of losing it to overdevelopment of the trail.  Burroughs Audubon Nature Club has played a major role in this Coalition.

We ask that you advocate for the preservation of the Railroad Mills Special Environmental Area at the upcoming Public Hearings.
